Staff Appointments
31st January 2020The Commission is pleased to announce that, following a comprehensive recruitment process, Charisma Lyall has been appointed as the Commission’s next General Counsel. Charisma will be replacing Philip Nicol-Gent who will be returning to the UK later this year having worked in the island for the past twenty years. Philip has been the Commission’s General Counsel for six and a half years and prior to that was the Director of the (then) Fiduciary Division.
Charisma was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland, Australia in 2005 and worked as a Taxation Specialist until 2008, when she moved to Guernsey. She spent the next three years at a local law firm and was called to the Guernsey Bar in 2012. During her time in private practice, Charisma gained a diverse range of corporate and commercial experience, including with investment funds, private equity, securities and regulatory work.
Charisma joined the Commission in 2011 as Legal Counsel and was appointed as Deputy General Counsel in 2016. She is a member of the Bailiwick’s Medical Registration Panel and an Adjunct Lecturer for the Guernsey Bar Course.
Speaking about the appointment, the Director General, William Mason, commented: "
I have worked with Charisma throughout my time at the Commission and I have been impressed with the quality of her advice, which is always thoughtful and helpful. I am confident that she will prove to be a competent successor to Philip Nicol-Gent whose service to Guernsey over many years has been quietly outstanding."
In addition, Caroline Bradley, former Deputy Director in the Banking and Insurance Division (BID), is joining the Authorisations and Innovation Division as Deputy Director to augment senior level capacity within that Division. Caroline has more recently been employed as a Special Advisor in the BID working with colleagues on policy development.
Director of the Authorisations and Innovation Division, Emma Bailey, said:
"Caroline is a welcome addition to the team bringing as she does a wealth of knowledge from her years as a senior Insurance regulator as well as a practitioner which will complement my experience in the investment sector as well as boosting our capacity for dealing with all aspects of the Division’s work."
Both appointments have been made with immediate effect.
