Sanctions Notice - Afghanistan
24th July 2014Please be advised of the amendment to the sanctions measures in place regarding Afghanistan has been made by the Legislation Select Committee. This amendments, which has direct effect, is as follows:
The Afghanistan (Restrictive Measures) (Guernsey) Ordinance, 2011 has been amended to impose a reporting requirement on financial services businesses. This requires all financial institutions and bodies to supply immediately any information on account and amounts frozen in respect of those persons listed under the Council Regulation (EU) No 753/2011 as amended to the Policy Council, as the competent authority and licensing authority in relation to these sanctions.
Actions
Businesses must:
- Check whether they have any business relationships, maintain any accounts or otherwise hold any funds or economic resources that relate to the activities prohibited by the EU Regulations referred to above.
- Report any findings to the Policy Council.
- Refrain from taking on or continuing any business which directly or indirectly supports the activities prohibited by these sanctions.
