Prospective deputies invited to learn more about Guernsey’s finance sector
27th January 2025Anyone considering standing in the 2025 Guernsey General Election is invited to a session hosted by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission, Guernsey Finance and the Guernsey International Business Association (GIBA) to learn more about Guernsey as an international finance centre.
The Introduction to the Finance Sector for Prospective Deputies session will be held at the Guernsey Financial Services Commission’s offices from 12.30pm to 1.30pm on Tuesday 4 March 2025.
The Commission’s Director General, William Mason, said: “Finance is the main business of the island with the taxes it pays allowing Guernsey to provide many public services. We would be pleased to see anyone who is considering standing to be a Deputy in the upcoming election and who would like to come along to hear more about the nature of finance sector in Guernsey and what helps it work, as well as the role the private sector, Guernsey Finance, and the Commission play in nurturing a supportive ecosystem.”
Rupert Pleasant, Chief Executive of Guernsey Finance, added, “We hope to provide those thinking about standing in the election with a good overview of the finance industry, its strengths and the challenges it faces, and the work that Guernsey Finance does.”
Paul Sykes, Chair of GIBA, said: “We want prospective deputies to leave this session with a clear understanding of the significant contribution the finance sector makes to Guernsey’s economy and community. It’s an opportunity to learn about the industry’s complexities, the collaborative efforts that keep it competitive, and how it supports the island’s long-term prosperity.”
