The Guernsey Financial Services Commission was pleased to host the plenary meeting of the International Organisation of Securities Commission’s (IOSCO) European Regional Committee (ERC) in Guernsey today (Wednesday 18 September 2024).  More than 55 people attended the committee meeting, with the committee having more than 50 member jurisdictions.

During the meeting, ERC members addressed and shared experiences on issues of common interest, including sustainable finance activities and the implementation of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) standards for sustainability-related disclosures, which are endorsed by IOSCO, and were pleased to welcome ISSB Vice-Chair Sue Lloyd for this discussion; enhancing international cooperation through IOSCO’s cooperation arrangements; and IOSCO’s enhanced capacity building programme.

Speaking about the meeting, Jean-Paul Servais, ERC Chair and IOSCO Board Chair, said: "A number of IOSCO priorities focus on the implementation of globally agreed standards in areas such as sustainable finance and crypto assets. This requires careful consideration of regional perspectives and needs. The discussions within the ERC provide valuable insights to the global initiatives led by IOSCO, while addressing ERC members’ views on those topics. I would like to thank the Guernsey Finance Services Commission for the excellent preparations and for hosting the ERC meeting.”

William Mason, Director General, added: “We were delighted to welcome representatives from many other European countries to Guernsey – undertaking practical international cooperation following our accession to IOSCO’s Enhanced Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (EMMoU) earlier this year.”

Gillian Browning, Co-Deputy Director General, noted: “By participating fully in international standard setting bodies such as IOSCO, Guernsey is able to offer its insights to help shape the future international standards which we follow.”
